Hans Schuler carved this carved this nereid, a Greek mythological sea nymph, from a single block of marble. The figure reclines nude on a rock with waves splashing underneath her, and with her proper left arm draped over a large fish. The execution of the statue in 1909 was driven by monetary funds given to Hans Schuler by Henry Walters.
